Panitugan Day Care Center

This is what is left of the Panitugan Day Care Center... but this building will rise again.

Repairs started yesterday with the help of the community volunteers.

An APES representative, Aimee Sobrevega, joined the visit last weekend (25-26.01.2014) to see where her group can contribute.  They have decided to take care of the tables, chairs, and the blackboard for the Day Care.  They are also sponsoring two feedings this weekend, one in Panitugan and another in Silagon.

Daghang salamat, APES!

Moamboc Elementary School

ParSma e.V. has transferred 1,630.00Eur (around 100,000.00Php) for the repairs of the Moamboc Elementary School.

We have already bought the initial materials for the repairs last weekend and work has started yesterday, already.

We are excited to see the progress this weekend!

Madamo nga salamat, ParSma e.V.!

We pay in six figures!

Silagon Day Care Center

Silagon Day Care Center (after Yolanda)

We are happy to announce that the Silagon Day Care Center is ready to welcome back the Kindergarten Kids of Silagon.

The repairs started the day after Christmas.  With the help of the community bayanihan (men, women, the youth and even the kids), work went fast. well, and fun!  We were able to finish the repairs in just about a week.

Daghang salamat to the donors for making this possible.  And to the HIP volunteers who helped in the repairs, thank you!

Available Funds and Cooperation

We have now a total of 402,486.00Php or 7,189.73Eur collected donations.  Of which, 218,911.27Php is still available for use in the project.

In addition, ParSma e.V. committed 1,630.00Eur (around 100,000.00Php) to be used for the repairs of the Moamboc Elementary School.  HIP will be the implementing partner of ParSma e.V. for this endeavor.

I am going to Bantayan Town tomorrow to meet with the Barangay (village) and islet representatives and local volunteers to start the repairs.

Joining me are two representatives of another group - APES - committing their collected donations amounting to 17,000.00Php for the rebuilding of the Day Care Center in Panitugan Islet.  APES also donated goods which will be distributed to the community as soon as possible.

Raising awareness on the situation of the islets is one of the main commitment of HIP and we are glad to have these cooperation with other groups.

Thank you, VOLUNTEERS!

Daghang Salamat to all HIP Volunteers!

Thank you very much for sharing yourself to the community!

The community extends their gratitude to all of you.

We have received letters, cards, fish, shellfish, snails, and lots of hugs and smiles from the kids.

It was the best Christmas for them and, I believe, for most of us, too!

What's HIP doing now?

We have committed the remaining donations to the repairs and (re)construction of the Moamboc Elementary School and Panitugan Day Care Center.

The Moamboc Elementary school was badly damaged. One of the walls of the 3-classroom school building fell and the roofs were all gone due to Typhoon Yolanda. In Panitugan Islet, the Day Care Center was totally destroyed.

The Day Care Center in Biagayag Islet was supposed to be part of our target but we have received a good news last weekend that Muslim Aid started work on it.

A group of volunteers are heading to Bantayan this coming weekend (25-26.January) to assess and validate the damages.  We hope to start with the repairs and (re)construction by next week.

HIP still welcomes donations as well as volunteers.  Another scheduled visit to the area will be on 1-2.February.
